In 5th grade I wrote a story about a boy who slit his wrists because he wanted to die. Only the kid forgot it was Aprils Fools’ Day so when his parents found him they thought he was joking and pretended to ignore him, he bled to death as a result. Then the parents had to tell everyone and everyone thought they were joking. The father finally broke down and stabbed a priest and was shot and killed by the cops. The mother lived, but she never went out any more except on April Fools’ Day, naked and cover in tomato sauce.
I thought it was pretty clever story and turned it in for a school contest. I didn’t win, but I got to visit a special doctor and he gave me some special vitamins that made me happy forever after.
Best way to not get your heart broken is to pretend you don’t have one!
